Santa Cruz River Grant Road Floodplain Study

Study status:  Approved by FEMA, effective November 28, 2011

FEMA has approved Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) Case Number 10-09-2016P for the Santa Cruz River floodplain. The LOMR became effective November 28, 2011.  The floodplain/floodway revision for the Santa Cruz River starts approximately one-half mile south of Grant Road and extends north to the Trails End Wash confluence near the Sweetwater Drive alignment. The revisions are based upon updated hydrologic and hydraulic models, and reflect the influence of several levee structures that the District has recently modified and/or certified meet the stringent FEMA levee standards.   This LOMR provides a more accurate map and a narrower 100 and 500-year floodplain. No properties or structures were added to the 100-year or 500-year floodplains. Significantly, this LOMR demonstrates that certain areas are protected by District Levees. These areas would otherwise be part of the 100-year floodplain, but are not due to the levee certification efforts of the District.  This LOMR revises portions of Flood Insurance Rate Maps 04019C1666L, 1667L, 1668L, 1669L, 1688L, 2276L.

The changes result in a more accurate map and a narrower 100 and 500 yr floodplain.  The floodplain/floodway revisions remove properties and structures from the 100-year and 500-year floodplains. No properties or structures are being added to the 100-year or 500-year floodplains. Significantly, this LOMR demonstrates that certain areas are protected by District Levees. These areas would otherwise be part of the 100-year floodplain, but are not due to the levee certification efforts of the District.
