  • Health Department to host COVID-19 and flu vaccine clinics in Green Valley

    COVID-19 vaccineThe Pima County Health Department will provide COVID-19 shots, regular-dose flu shots, and at-home COVID-19 test kits at a series of events in Green Valley over the next few weeks. The event schedule is as follows:

    • Wednesday, December 21, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Elks Lodge, 2951 S. Camino Mercado

    • Thursday, December 22, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Valley Presbyterian Church, 2800 S. Camino Del Sol
    • Wednesday, December 28, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Valley Assistance Services, 3950 S. Camino del Heroe

    • Friday, January 6, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Valley Assistance Services, 3950 S. Camino del Heroe
    All events are indoors. All services are free.

    Cases of both COVID-19 and flu have been rising in recent weeks. The bivalent booster is recommended for anyone over 6 months old if it has been at least two months since they completed their primary series or received an original booster shot.

    People 65 years and older are at greatest risk of getting sick from COVID-19. In Pima County, almost one-third of all COVID-19 cases and 44 percent of hospitalizations are occurring in the 65-plus age group. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this age group accounted for more than 90 percent of COVID-19 deaths nationally in the week ending Nov. 26.

    In addition to the upcoming Green Valley events, COVID and flu vaccines are available for free at Pima County Health Department clinics, the Abrams Public Health Center and pop-up events. More information on locations is at pima.gov/covid19vaccine.
