The City of Tucson, Tucson Water’s Storm to Shade Program and the Pima County Regional Flood Control District have created a new “Green Stormwater Infrastructure and Low Impact Development Standard Details and Site Guidance” with funding by the City of Tucson, Tucson’s Storm to Shade program, the District and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
We are excited to provide this guidance for your review, use and evaluation. While this is a guidance and is not regulatory, the long-term goal of this effort is to develop a robust set of standards and specifications for Green Stormwater Infrastructure and Low Impact Development (GSI/LID) which the region can adopt as an update to the existing Standard Details and Specifications for Public Improvements. This is a very long term goal, and in the interim we present this manual which can evolve during a 12-month evaluation period by users. During that time, we extend the invitation to you to include the guidance information in your project planning and to include the details in your project plans. As you see opportunities for improvement, please provide your markups and comments to
Jacob.Prietto@pima.gov.
Knowledgeable professionals with long-standing experience in GSI/LID vetted and contributed to this guidance, and we look forward to your continuing input as you put this into practice. The guidance not only collects the extensive knowledge of professionals in the field, it also provides a route to standardized GSI/LID practices which will become recognizable by the public and maintenance teams. Creating easy-to-identify site features notifies the public that the community supports sustainability and water conservation and leads to protection of the features and their functions. This effort will lead to much less damage to basins and arid-adapted vegetation and much more beneficial use of stormwater!
