    Mar 24, 2023 - Pima County residents have one last chance to have their taxes prepared and filed for them at no cost. The Valet VITA program will host its final clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, at the County’s Kino One-Stop, 2797 E. Ajo Way. 
     
    Mar 24, 2023 - David Salinas never saw himself working in the information technology field. Even if he had, he probably wouldn’t have been able to afford the training necessary to enter the industry. That was until he joined Pima Community College’s Micropathways program, also known as PimaFastTrack. 
     
    Mar 24, 2023 - On Thursday, March 9, it became official. Cheyenne Riviera had made it. She had passed the GED exam. Riviera was just one of the students who graduated from Las Artes Arts & Education Center, a program under Pima County’s Community and Workforce Development Department for students ages 17 to 22 that combines classroom courses with community art projects to prepare them for the GED exam and teach valuable job skills.

    Mar 21, 2023 - More than 250 people gathered at the University of Arizona's Tech Park to participate in panel discussions, network and learn about the County's workforce development. 
     
    Mar 09, 2023 - Gloria Poore is one of dozens of permanent, full-time employees in the Pima County library system who got their start through the library page internship program. She started in October 2021 and has since been promoted twice. Library pages have traditionally been seen as student workers, but thanks to a partnership between the Library and the Pima County One-Stop, the positions are now open to people of all ages. 
     
    Mar 08, 2023 - She was only a teenager, with nowhere to go and no one to rely on. Her father was incarcerated and her mother didn’t want to be a parent, which left her without a home. That’s where Joel Brown with Pima Vocational High School stepped in. Brown connected the young woman with Youth on Their Own, a nonprofit that supports students experiencing homelessness who are living without a parent or guardian.

    Feb 22, 2023 - Anyone with a household income of less than $73,000 per year is eligible for the Valet VITA program. Clients should bring a government-issued photo ID, their social security card, and all appropriate tax documents. After meeting with an IRS-certified intake specialist, their information is sent to a tax preparer, who files their taxes for them. 
     
    Feb 09, 2023 - Pima County's Community & Workforce Development Department has three resource navigators — located in Flowing Wells, Sahuarita and Arivaca — who are available to connect member of those communities with a plethora of County programs, services and nonprofit agencies. 
     
    Feb 09, 2023 - Pima County’s Community & Workforce Development Department recently put the final touch on its refurbished space where members of the public can find help accessing a whole host of County services — including resume assistance; skills training; job searches; and rent and utility assistance. The finishing stroke was the signage for the room — it is now known as the Nils Urman Resource Center and some employees at CWD are already affectionately calling it “The NURC” — rhymes with Turk. 
     
    Feb 07, 2023 - Pima County and the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona this week will begin offering free and fast tax-preparation assistance to members of the community. The Valet VITA program, a partnership between Pima County’s Community & Workforce Development Department and the United Way since 2016, is available to families and individuals with incomes up to $73,000 per year. 
     
    Feb 03, 2023 - Pima County is seeking applications for the development or preservation of affordable housing. Applications are open to qualified nonprofit and for-profit developers, builders, government agencies and partnerships.

Las Artes, a GED program within Pima County’s Community & Workforce Development Department, helps youths ages 17 to 22 earn money while they prepare for the GED exam and learn valuable job-readiness skills. 
     
    Nov 22, 2022 - Staff members from Pima County and the City of Tucson have begun the important work of improving the financial well-being of families throughout the community. Initially, the prosperity working group will be tasked with coming up with policy proposals. It will then be up to the Pima County Board of Supervisors and the City Council — and perhaps several other municipalities and tribal nations — to adopt the policies they deem viable. 
     
    Nov 10, 2022 - The Kino Veterans’ Workforce Center is marking its 10th year of existence. The center can assist veterans with issues ranging from job searches and skills training to counseling and supplying the tools one might need to start a new career. It also offers outreach activities with area employers; provides peer support; hosts a twice-weekly networking club to share job leads; and can even help veterans with their benefits, such as the GI Bill and disability claims. 
     
    Nov 02, 2022 - The resource and job fair is being organized by the county’s Community & Workforce Development Department in conjunction with the office of District 1 Supervisor Rex Scott. 
     
    Sep 28, 2022 - Pima County is inviting the entire community, especially those who live on Tucson’s north side, to a job and resource fair Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellie Towne Flowing Wells Community Center, 1660 W. Ruthrauff Road. 
     
    Sep 27, 2022 - The National Association for County Community and Economic Development gave Pima County a 2022 Award of Excellence for its innovative program providing legal services for tenants in eviction proceedings.

    May 05, 2022 - The job fair at the Kino Event Center, 2805 E. Ajo Way, will feature 20 to 40 companies or nonprofit agencies in Pima County that are seeking candidates for more than 100 vacant positions. 
     
    Apr 15, 2022 - The Pima County Workforce Investment Board will host a training program for employers that focuses on changing perceptions about job-seekers’ abilities. Many organizations would like to employ people with disabilities, but find that fears, biases and myths create barriers in the hiring process. The Windmills program focuses on attitudes and human factors that may adversely affect the hiring of people with disabilities while also addressing concerns, including legal requirements and accommodations. 
     
    Mar 10, 2022 - Pima County’s first resource fair of 2022 was a huge success, attracting 45 County and community agencies and an estimated 1,100 members of the public over three hours. 
     
    Mar 10, 2022 - Las Artes helps youths ages 17 to 22 earn money while they prepare for the GED test and learn valuable job-readiness skills. Classes are held in person for 30 hours a week and students must attend daily at 23 W. 27th St. in South Tucson. 
     
    Mar 07, 2022 - Pima County will host a job fair on Tuesday, March 8, for people who are looking to work with social service agencies and nonprofits that serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

    Oct 22, 2021 - Jazelle Armenta loved otters, seashells and spaghetti. She also loved being a member of the cheer squad for the Tucson Redskins youth football team. All of these loves are visible on the colorful new memorial that was unveiled earlier this week at Winston Reynolds-Manzanita Park to honor Jazelle, who died in a car accident on Sept. 18, 2019.

    Aug 12, 2021 - When Daitra Small was threatened with an eviction the joint Pima County and city of Tucson eviction prevention, rental assistance and utility relief program was able to lend a helping hand and is putting her back on her feet financially. 
     
    Jun 23, 2021 - The Pima County Board of Supervisors on June 22 approved a resolution to spend more than $3 million in Community Development Block Grants and an additional $250,000 on Emergency Solutions Grants for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
