  • Local bioscience industry panel to discuss workforce needs at Oct. 11 meeting

    The local bioscience industry’s workforce needs will be the topic of an industry panel at the Pima County Workforce Investment Board meeting on Friday, Oct. 11.

    The meeting will begin at 7:30 a.m. in Rooms 109-112 at Pima Community College’s Community Campus, 401 N. Bonita Ave. It usually concludes by 9 a.m. and is open to the public.

    Panel members are:
    Steve Reichling, Chief Financial Officer, Accelerate Diagnostics Inc., an in vitro diagnostics company dedicated to providing solutions to the global challenge of drug resistant organisms and hospital acquired infections.

    Marci Beth Phillips, Bio-control Specialist, Arbico Organics, which has been producing and supplying commercial growers, landscapers, ranchers, pet owners and home gardeners with natural products for comprehensive pest control solutions for over 33 years.

    Aric Meares, President and CEO, Azbil Biovigilant, a leading developer of innovative technologies for rapid microbial monitoring methods and the inventor of instantaneous microbial detection.

    Dr. Uwe Higlert, Director Education Outreach and Training, University of Arizona’s BIO5 Institute, a cutting-edge research collaboration involving hundreds of researchers from over 20 UA colleges and departments to advance the pace of scientific discovery and tackle our world’s critical biological challenges.

    The Pima County Workforce Investment Board is appointed by the Pima County Board of Supervisors to provide recommendations on local workforce policy and oversight of the Pima County One-Stop Career Center. The board includes representatives of local businesses, nonprofits and educational institutions.

    One-Stop works with employers in local growth, high-demand industry occupations to address their current and future workforce needs.
