The Pima County Board of Supervisors appointed two new members to the Pima County Workforce Investment Board on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

The Board appointed Deborah L. Embry, president and CEO of the Tucson Urban League, and Steven M. Banzhaf, a retired executive with Bank of America, to the workforce board.

The Board of Supervisors appointed Tucson City Councilwoman Regina Romero to the workforce board on July 2.

Embry succeeded Jonathan Peck as president and CEO of the Tucson Urban League in May. Before that, she had been director of the City of Racine, Wis., Mayor’s Office of Strategic Partnerships.

Banzhaf was market president of Bank of America and senior vice president and private client advisor at U.S. Trust, Bank of America, until 2012. He is a member of the boards of TREO (Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities Inc.) and Junior Achievement, and is a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council and the DM-50.

Romero has represented Ward 1 on the City Council since 2007. Before working as an aide to Ward 3 City Councilwoman Karin Uhlich from 2005 to 2007, Romero worked as a program coordinator in the Pima County departments of Community Development and Neighborhood Conservation, and Community Services.

The Pima County Workforce Investment Board is appointed by the Pima County Board of Supervisors to provide recommendations on local workforce policy and oversight of the Pima County One-Stop Career Center.
