pavementThe Pima County Department of Transportation recently completed micro-sealing a five-mile section of Nogales Highway that serves thousands of commuters daily.

As part of the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Pavement Preservation Program, the Pima County Department of Transportation completed the surface treatment of the Nogales Highway from Los Reales Road to Lumber Street. The section of roadway has heavy vehicle traffic, more than 11,000 per day, according to recent Pima Association of Government average daily trips information.

The area also serves as a major corridor for the region’s largest private employer, Raytheon, where more than 10,000 people work. Nogales Highway also serves numerous regional employers including Desert Diamond Casio, Bombardier and the burgeoning employment centers along Aerospace Parkway.

Work on the five-mile section of Nogales Highway lasted two and cost $838,500. It was part of a $4.8 million Pavement Preservation Program approved as part of the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 budget.
