Yes, Pima County employees, you too can ride the Bookbike
The Pima County Bookbike is a volunteer opportunity to:
- Share your love of bikes and books
- Get Wellness credits with both exercise points and volunteer points
- Demonstrate how bikes are effective modes of transportation
- Get out in the community and put a human face to government
What is the Bookbike all about?
The Bookbike gives out free books, library cards, reading glasses, and bike maps. We provide information about the Library and our literacy programs, as well as bicycling events. The Bookbike goes out on regular monthly visits as well as special events such as the Tucson Festival of Books, Cyclovia, the Parade of Lights, and more!
The Bookbike goes out around a five-mile radius of three libraries: Joel D. Valdez Main Library downtown, Eckstrom-Columbus Library (22nd and Columbus), and Santa Rosa Library (10th Ave and 22nd).
Pima County Bike Ambassadors, Library staff, and Pima County employees from all departments go out with volunteers who ride on their own bikes.
If you want to volunteer for the Bookbike, please contact:
- Joel D. Valdez Main Library: Karen Greene, 520-594-5564
- Eckstrom-Columbus Library: Lorie Karcher, 520-594-5290
- Santa Rosa Library: Susan Husband, 520-594-5262
For questions about the Bookbike, please e-mail Karen.Greene@pima.gov
There will be a Bookbike volunteer orientation in February. Come and find out how to volunteer!

Bonus! Promote your department out on the Bookbike.
You can bring outreach materials from your department along with you to Library-sponsored Bookbike events. Eventually, your department might want to use the Bookbike for your own outreach events! Or even purchase your own Bookbike! The possibilities are endless.
