Beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, Pima County Department of Transportation and The Regional Transportation Authority along with their contractor, KE & G Construction, will be activating the new signal light at the intersection of Nogales Highway and Old Nogales as part of the Nogales Highway/Old Nogales Improvement Project.

The signal light will be on temporary flash mode and then to its full operational mode the same day. Message boards have been placed in advanced of the intersection to provide drivers with warning of the new signal change.

Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices.
    Project Scope:

The project consists of adding a traffic signal at the intersection and widening the pavement along Nogales Highway to allow wider shoulders for bicyclists. The project also includes a new box culvert under Old Vail Connection Road approximately 500 feet east of Old Nogales Highway. The project should be completed by summer 2015.

In the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather, the construction schedule may change.

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is the fiscal manager of the $2.1 billion plan approved by Pima County voters on May 16, 2006. The RTA Board is comprised of representatives from local jurisdictions in Pima County, including the cities of Tucson and South Tucson, Pima County, the towns of Marana, Oro Valley, and Sahuarita, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the Tohono O’odham Nation. A representative of the Arizona State Transportation Board also serves on the board. For more information about the RTA plan, visit RTA mobility or call (520) 792-1093.
