    Honoring Constable Martinez

Constable MartinezFlags are flying at half-staff across the state by order of Gov. Doug Ducey following the Aug. 25 death of Pima County Constable Deborah Martinez and three others.

"On behalf of the Board of Supervisors and fellow Pima County employees, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Precinct 8 Constable Deborah Martinez, who was killed in the line of duty,” Board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bronson said. “Our County Constables perform a difficult and important job for the people of this County. They often encounter people at their most vulnerable and emotional, yet they all perform their duties with professionalism and compassion. I am heartbroken at this terrible tragedy and I will keep Constable Martinez and all who knew and loved her in my thoughts."

Martinez was killed while attempting to serve an eviction notice at an apartment complex near E. Fort Lowell Road and N. Palo Verde Avenue. Constables serve civil and criminal papers of the Pima Justice Court, Pima County agencies/departments, and those papers received from out-of-area courts.

A public funeral service for Constable Deborah Martinez will be held Thursday, September 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave

Martinez was appointed to fill the vacant constable position in Justice Precinct 8 at the Board of Supervisors’ March 15 meeting. Martinez was an Army veteran and Tucson native.

The County also extends sympathies to the other victims of the Aug. 25 shooting.
