Designed to incorporate unique building materials, maximize the use of natural energy and to provide knowledge to both designers and occupants of affordable housing, the Drachman Design Build Coalition, Inc. (DDBC) at the University of Arizona utilized the 2004 General Obligation Affordable Housing Bond funds to provide infrastructure for the construction of five affordable housing units.  Four have been built and sold to qualified households at 65% to 80% of the area median income for Pima County.  The final unit was completed in May 2013.
Bond funds paid for architectural and engineering design, permits and fees, new electrical service, water and sewer lines and meters, sidewalks and aprons and public landscaping.
As a benefit to the community, a vacant, underutilized site has been converted into a model, five-unit subdivision of affordable, energy efficient, earth friendly housing which produced best practices for the affordable housing industry.
