fight hungerThe Community Food Bank’s annual event to help end hunger in Southern Arizona is coming to Sam Lena Park, 3400 S. Country Club Road, at Kino Sports Complex Sept. 15 from 7 to 11 a.m.

Adults and kids of all ages are invited to partake in a 1.5-mile walk, which loops around the Sam Lena area up to the Community Food Bank’s distribution warehouse, 3003 S. Country Club Road. This family-friendly event includes an educational experience at the food bank and fun activities after the walk.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 8 a.m. Adults pay $25 and kids, 6-12, pay $10. Children 5 and under are free. Participants can register in person on the day of the event or in advance online. All proceeds will stay at the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona and benefit all of its hunger assistance programs.

As the Food Bank’s signature event, HungerWalk draws a crowd of over 1,000 people. During the walk, participants will visit the food bank’s distribution warehouse where they can see first-hand where donations arrive, get sorted, and then go back out to the community to feed neighbors in need.

“It is energizing to see so many people turn out on a Saturday morning. The fight against hunger takes the support of the community. HungerWalk is a great way to see how many people want to make a difference,” said Michael McDonald, President and CEO of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
