Lola PACCWhat better way to celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30 than by actually going out and adopting a shelter pet? Visit Pima Animal Care Center's shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, through May 3 and pay a $15 adoption fee on all pets over six months.

As PACC enters its most challenging time of the year – puppy and kitten season – it needs the community’s help to boost shelter adoptions. Currently, PACC’s shelter has nearly 500 pets waiting for homes, not including those pets currently in foster homes.

“We have many deserving pets waiting to find forever homes,” said PACC Director Kristen Auerbach. “We need community members to step up and adopt or foster, so we can open our doors to more pets in need.”

The all-inclusive “Adopt a Shelter Pet Day” special applies to all PACC pets over six months old and includes the pet’s spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip, and a free vet visit, too. A standard $18 licensing fee will apply to all adult dogs.

As the community’s only animal shelter that never turns away a pet in need, Pima Animal Care Center welcomes thousands of pets each year who need medical care and a new loving home. In 2017, PACC cared for 16,430 pets thanks to its community who helped adopt, foster or rescue a pet in need.

If you’re interested in adopting a new best friend or fostering one temporarily, visit PACC’s shelter between noon and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday or 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For other ways to help, visit pima.gov/animalcare.
