AZPM logoArizona Public Media recently ran an exciting new three-part series titled Lifeblood of the Desert, which focuses on how cities in Arizona manage their water resources. The first installation in the series featured how the use of reclaimed water produced by the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department’s Tres Ríos and Agua Nueva Water Reclamation Facilities has brought sections of the Santa Cruz River back to life.

Since recent upgrades to the Tres Ríos Water Reclamation Facility were completed, the river now supports a variety of wildlife including fish, birds, trees, and vegetation for an area of river stretching over 10 miles.

“’We’re putting this water back to beneficial use. It is our water. We want to keep it within our community because we live in a desert. We want to ensure every drop of water we pump out of the ground, we put it to maximum beneficial use,’ said Dr. Jeff Prevatt, the Wastewater Treatment Division's Deputy Director.”
