Pima County Department of Transportation along with their contractors, Greenlight Traffic Engineering and DBI Services, are in the process of inventorying signs and gathering sign attributes on unincorporated Pima County residential, arterial and collector roadways.

Over the next 8 to 12 weeks, a project vehicle will be traveling the posted speed limit during various day and nighttime hours. The first set of data collection will take place in the northern area of Pima County.

A specialized van equipped with an Advanced Mobile Asset Collection system will be collecting sign attributes. These vehicles are supplied with an LED light source on the fron that periodically flashes and its luminance is less than that of an average headlight.

The purpose of this project is to inventory, prioritize and eventually replace sign panels that do not meet current standards. It is funded by a Highway Safety Improvement Program grant from the Federal Highway Administration. The ultimate goal is to improve safety through increasing sign visibility.
