  • Rillito River Path closing June 27-28 for improvement project

    the loopBeginning on Tuesday, June 27 through Wednesday, June 28, Pima County Department of Transportation, the Regional Transportation Authority and their contractor, Falcone Brothers & Associates will begin final placement of girders on the new bridge across Camino de la Tierra as part of the improvement project. The following activities will occur:

    Tuesday, June 27 and Wednesday, 28: The sub-contractor will be setting up the large crane that will be moving and setting the girders. For safety reasons, the parking area and bike path at the Rillito River Path will be closed to traffic, cyclists and pedestrians to avoid any conflicts with the trucks and crane. Hours of work will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flaggers and message boards will be on both ends of the project.

    Wednesday, June 28: Final placement of the girders onto the new bridge structure will take place. For safety reasons, a closure at Camino de la Tierra at Rillito River will take place. Sheriff Deputies will be on-site directing traffic. Work hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and message boards will be on both ends of the project.

    Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices. Bicyclists and motorists should seek alternate routes. The improvement project completion is expected to be fall of 2017.

    In the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather, the construction schedule will be subject to change.
