  • Final paving of Colossal Cave Road starts June 19

    Colossal Cave RoadBeginning Monday, June 19 through Thursday, June 29, the Pima County Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Authority and their contractor, Southern Arizona Paving will begin final paving work on the Colossal Cave Road: Acacia Elementary School to Old Vail Middle School Improvement Project.

    The following is a schedule of paving activities: 

    Monday, June 19 through Tuesday, June 20:
    Crews will work on the minor adjustments and apply the final lift of pavement on Success Drive. Hours of operation will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Traffic will be detoured through the work zone by pilot car and flaggers. 

    Wednesday, June 21 through Thursday, June 29: Crews will begin final paving on the east side (northbound) lanes and continue to the west side (southbound) lanes of Colossal Cave Road. Temporary pavement markings will follow paving work. Final thermoplastic pavement markings will occur the week of July 17. Hours of operation will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Traffic will be detoured through the work zone by pilot car and flaggers. 

    In the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather, the construction schedule will be subject to change. For more information on the Colossal Cave Road Improvement Project, please visit DOT's website.
