The Petco Foundation has awarded Pima Animal Care Center a $25,000 grant to support the shelter’s continued investment in providing medical services to pets in need.

PACC medical team helps dogThe grant will fund lifesaving medical equipment, including three baby animal incubators that PACC will put to use immediately to care for orphaned litters while staff finds them foster placements. In addition, the shelter plans to purchase an additional surgery light, surgery table and electric lift exam table, which will be used to save critically injured patients.

Other items the grant will fund: a syringe pump, for delivering nutrition to baby animals whose glucose levels are crashing; an additional dental scaler and polisher, for giving senior pets a second chance; and a trans-illuminator system, for helping pets with eye problems and head trauma.

“We’re so grateful that Petco Foundation is investing in Pima County’s pets,” Karen Hollish, director of development and marketing, said. “These critically needed items will help our team save lives now and in our new shelter for years to come.”

Since Dr. Jennifer Wilcox began revitalizing PACC’s medical program in 2014, the shelter’s save rate has increased from about 70 percent to nearly 90 percent. With the Petco Foundation’s investment, the shelter will have additional resources to save more injured pets, neonatal pets, senior pets and formerly hoarded pets, which should help push its save rate even higher.
