  • SS-05 Tanque Verde Interceptor - Tucson Country Club to Craycroft Road

    Total Project Cost: $1,740,925
    Program Number: 312058
Funding Sources: 1997 General Obligation Bonds
    Completion Date: June 2011
    Managing Dept.: Regional Wastewater Reclamation
    Project Map: GIS Map

This project is Phase I, design and land acquisition for the future construction of an approximately 9,000 linear feet, 36-inch diameter interceptor sewer. The Tanque Verde and Pantano sewer service areas all tributary to the new South Rillito Interceptor that conveys flows to Roger Road Waste Water Treatment Facility, thereby relieving flows in the North Rillito Interceptor and Ina Road Water Pollution Control Facility.

The land required for the new alignment and associated bank protection has been purchased, and the design documents have been completed. Significant work in identifying the work required for cultural mitigation of the historical area and associated work for the US Army Corps of Engineering 404 permits has also been initiated. The construction portion of the project is currently waiting for the USACE work to be initiated. Waiting for this start will allow the County to most efficiently install the required erosion control bank protection that will also protect the future sewer lines.

When built, the interceptor will provide additional capacity for future flow demand, allowing the Tanque Verde and Pantano sewer basins to receive adequate sewer service. Annual maintenance costs will be reduced along with the risks of service interruption. The generation of odors will also be minimized.
