Colossal Cave RoadBeginning Monday, March 13 through Sunday, March 26, Pima County Department of Transportation, the Regional Transportation Authority and their contractor, Southern Arizona Paving and Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), will close Colossal Cave Road at the northern and southern railroad crossing. This work is part of the Colossal Cave Road: Acacia Elementary School to Old Vail Middle School Improvement Project. The following is the schedule work:

March 6th and 9th: The work will be on the northbound tracks and will remain open. Work will consist of the UPRR making improvements to the tracks and Southern Arizona Paving performing paving work.

March 13th through the 26th: The closure will be on the southbound tracks. Work will consist of the UPRR making improvements to the tracks and Southern Arizona Paving will be installing drainage pipes and paving the area.

Detour: Colossal Cave Road north of the UPRR from Interstate 10 (I-10) will be accessible by using the Houghton Road exit (Exit 275) and traveling north on Houghton Road to Mary Ann Cleveland Way and traveling east on Mary Ann Cleveland Way to Colossal Cave Road and vice-versa.

The last point of access on Colossal Cave Road from I-10 (Exit 279) northbound is at the business center complex just south of the railroad tracks. Both Acacia Elementary School and Old Vail Middle School will have access. Although the southern railroad crossing will remain closed to all traffic during these dates, access to businesses will remain open.

Please plan alternative routes during this closure and allow additional time for your travels. Motorists should also approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices. In the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather, the construction schedule will be subject to change.
