Dec. 15 meeting on sewer rate increaseThe Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department’s Regional Wastewater Reclamation Advisory Committee has scheduled a public meeting Jan. 26 to provide the public information on a proposal to increase existing sewer user rates and fees by 4 percent. The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on the proposal at its Feb. 7 meeting.

The informational session will be held at 8 a.m., Jan. 26, in Basement-Conference Room C of the Public Works Building, 201 N. Stone Ave. The committee’s regularly scheduled committee meeting will follow.

The session will include a brief presentation by Pima County Finance and Risk Management Director Keith Dommer and an opportunity for members of the public to comment on the proposal.

The Board of Supervisors is expected to review the matter at 10:30 a.m. during its Feb. 7 meeting. The matter came before the board at its Jan. 17 meeting, however the board decided to delay voting on the increases until a set time during its next meeting so that members of the public wishing to attend and address the board could schedule their day around a specific time. Previous informational meetings about the rate increase held Dec. 12 and 15 were lightly attended.

If approved by the Board, the increase would ensure the County generates enough revenue to cover its operating, maintenance and debt expenses while also having enough financial reserves, which are required by the bond market for the County’s sewer debt.

Individuals who cannot attend the public meeting may review the proposed rate increase online in RWRD’s 2016 Financial Plan and submit questions their questions to the Finance Department at 724-3669 or by email.
