There are many ways that community members can help us in our mission to reduce the numbers of unwanted animals and help those in our shelters have a second chance at finding a loving household.
    • Consider a rescue pet when it’s time to add a pet to your household. Many of our pets are perfectly healthy and well-socialized animals that have found themselves in our shelter through no fault of their own. Their owners might have underestimated the responsibility that comes with owning a pet, or experienced life changes that prevented them from caring for their pet. By considering a shelter pet, not only will you help save a life, but training is often easier than you’ll experience with a brand new puppy or kitten. Since we screen pets for general health and send them home with vaccinations and spay/ neuter services, you’ll get a great bargain on a healthy pet, rather than spending upwards of $500 or more on puppies that come from breeders.
    • License your dog. It’s the law. But it’s also the best way to make sure we can reunite you with your pets if they get lost.
    • Donate. Supplying food, medical assistance, staff time, gasoline, utilities and other services costs an average of $17 per animal per day. You can designate your donation to help us with specific needs: general assistance, spay/neuter services, medication, adoptions and community outreach. Donations are accepted online for your convenience as well.
    • Volunteer. We couldn’t offer the services we do without the help of dedicated volunteers. More than 100 community members volunteer here, from helping serve as “shelter hosts” who can assist families in finding the right pet to helping us ensure our animals have opportunities for exercise and socialization.
    • Share the word about Pima Animal Care Center. If you have friends or family members looking for a new pet, remind them that we have plenty of wonderful dogs and cats in need of a new home and we’re always ready to help them find the right addition to their household.
