Wastewater Facility Plan CoverThe Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) has completed its 2016 Wastewater Facility Plan, an update to the 2006 Metropolitan Area Facility Plan.

Since the last plan update in 2006, RWRD has undergone significant changes, including the closure of the Roger Road Wastewater Reclamation Facility with the diversion of flows to the newly completed Agua Nueva Water Reclamation Facility. Additionally, the Ina Road Wastewater Reclamation Facility has been expanded and renamed the Tres Rios Water Reclamation Facility. Both facilities are now equipped with high-end technology that produces effluent to meet Arizona Department of Environmental Quality standards.

The 2016 Wastewater Facility Plan is comprehensive in nature and incorporates many aspects of RWRD planning. The document includes information on:

    • regional wastewater treatment and conveyance
    • system capacities and conditions
    • service area demands and population projections
    • resource management and sustainability efforts
    • current regulatory requirements
    • trends and challenges facing the industry today
    • preparation for tomorrow
"Efficient and well-maintained wastewater treatment and conveyance systems are critical to the economic health of the region," said Jackson Jenkins, RWRD director. "Our department is committed to continuing its role as an industry leader in the management and sustainability of the water reclamation cycle and other renewable resources in Pima County."
