Rillito Sediment Removal The Pima County Regional Flood Control District has hired the Ashton Company, Inc. to perform routine maintenance work this summer in the Rillito River between Alvernon Way and Swan Rd.

The work entails the removal of built-up sediment on the wash floor— necessary to increase capacity in the channel and reduce flood risks during the upcoming monsoon and other future rain events.

Work will begin on June 6, and is anticipated to continue throughout the summer months. Construction hours are
    7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

While most work will take place in the river channel, there will be times when project equipment will cross the Loop. When this occurs, contractor staff will implement traffic control measures for the safety of Loop users. Walkers and cyclists should be prepared for minor delays. On occasion, dump trucks associated with the project may travel short distances on Swan Rd.

The sediment removed from the riverbed will be moved to nearby county-owned parcels adjacent to the wash.

The construction schedule and times are approximate and are subject to change in the event that unforeseen circumstances or weather conditions cause delays or postponements.
