  • Kino will host soccer, baseball and rugby events May 19-21

    The facilities at Kino Sports Complex can accommodate a number of sporting events simultaneously. Such will be the case this weekend as Kino hosts a weekend of baseball, soccer and, for the first time ever, rugby.  

    kino baseballRugby will make its debut at Kino Sports Complex May 21-22 for the 2016 USA Rugby Emirates Airline Men’s and Women’s Senior Club National Playoffs.

    Teams from across the country will compete for a spot in the National Championships at Kino Sports Complex North Stadium. The 20 participating teams represent Texas, California, Arkansas, Missouri, Colorado, Washington, Utah, and Arizona. 

    Ten games will be played each day starting at 10 a.m. in Fields 1, 2, and 3. Guests can purchase day tickets for $10 at the gate and enjoy free parking all day long. In addition, concessions will be available.

    The winners of Sunday’s Semifinal matches will advance to the USA Rugby Club Championships June 4-5 in Glendale, Colorado.

    The Pecos League opening weekend kicks off tonight at Kino Veteran’s Memorial Stadium featuring Tucson’s very own Tucson Saguaros. 

    The Pecos League will start its 2016 season on May 19 with the inaugural game between the Tucson Saguaros, the league’s newest team based out of Tucson, and the Santa Fe Fuego. Alfonso Cardenas, a born and raised Tucsonan and former Pecos League pitcher, will throw the ceremonial first pitch at 7 p.m. Other local faces at tonight’s game include, Pepe Gomez, Ruben Rivera, and Ryan Retz who are all on the Saguaro’s roster.

    Tickets for the opening game will cost $7.50 per person and only $6 per person for Friday and Saturday’s games. Those interested in attending can purchase game tickets online or at the box office, which opens at 4 p.m. each day. The Stadium will have concessions and offer free parking. All opening weekend games will take start at 7 p.m. and take place at Kino Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, 2500 E. Ajo Way.

    soccer at KinoThe Pecos League is an independent professional baseball league with teams in New Mexico, Kansas, Arizona, West Texas and Southern Colorado. The league will play its 2016 season at Kino Sports Complex through July 28.

    FC Tucson soccer season continues at Kino’s North Stadium 

    On Saturday, May 21 FC Tucson takes the field against the San Diego Seahorses at Kino’s North Stadium. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Single day tickets for adults are $11 and $7.70 for kids.
