  • Bike safety, repair classes set through June 2016

    Bike repairCyclists can learn some valuable skills and get free safety items for their bikes at several skills classes offered in May and June by Pima County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Program and the League of American Bicyclists.     Participants need to bring a bike in good working condition to the free classes. Topic, description, time and location are:
    Get Back on Your Bike – an easy two-hour ride to familiarize riders with bike topics, local streets and safety tips.

    Recommended for adults and youth ages 16 and up; 13-15 OK with a parent. Participants will receive a choice of one free item: helmet, front and rear bike light set, bicycle U-lock, or multi tool.  Both classes held at the Himmel Park Library, 1035 N. Treat Ave.
    • Saturday, May 28, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
    • Saturday, June 25, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
    Confident and Capable Cyclist - a primer for cyclists who wish to gain a full understanding of how to safely operate a bicycle in a variety of situations. Learn how to perform a quick safety check, fix a flat, and do minor mechanical adjustments. Recommended for adults and youth ages 16 and up; 13-15 OK with a parent. Participants who take both classes (Parts 1 and 2) will receive a choice of two free items: helmet, front and rear bike light set, bicycle U-lock, or multi tool.

    Confident and Capable Cyclist for Women - a primer for cyclists who wish to gain a full understanding of how to safely operate a bicycle in a variety of situations. Course also delves into the history of women and the bicycle, covers women-specific bicycle fit, clothing, and personal security issues while riding alone.

    Learn how to perform a quick safety check, fix a flat, and do minor mechanical adjustments. Recommended for adults and youth ages 16 and up; 13-15 OK with a parent. Participants who take both classes (Parts 1 and 2) will receive a choice of two free items: helmet, front and rear bike light set, bicycle U-lock, or multi tool. 
    • Part 1, Thursday, May 19, 6:30-9 p.m. - Perimeter Bicycling, 2609 E. Broadway Blvd.
    • Part 2, Saturday, May 21, 7 a.m.-1 p.m. - Perimeter Bicycling, 2609 E. Broadway Blvd.
    • Part 1, Thursday, June 16, 6:30-9 p.m. - Perimeter Bicycling, 2609 E. Broadway Blvd.
    • Part 2, Saturday, June 18, 7 a.m.-1 p.m. - Perimeter Bicycling, 2609 E. Broadway Blvd.
    Mechanics Class – focuses on basic mechanics of the bicycle and will include repair and adjustment of the most common problems. Bring your bikes and plan on getting your hands dirty. Class size is limited to 10 people. Participants will receive a free flashing LED leg band and a choice of a free bicycle U-lock, bike light set or multi tool.

    Women’s Mechanic Class – same as the Mechanic Class, but is geared for women riders.
