The original 2004 bond question called for a New Psychiatric Hospital for up to 100 in-patient beds to complement the existing psychiatric services at the then - called Kino Community Hospital. The new building that was completed and occupied in August 2011 consists of a three-story 134,700 square foot building connecting on the southeast corner of the existing hospital, now called The University of Arizona Medical Center South Campus.

The ground floor of the new Behavioral Health Pavilion (BHP) consists of a 32 - bed emergency department classified as a Level 3 Trauma Center with public and ambulance entries. Off the ma in public entrance to the BHP, are located a small conference center, outpatient services, Pima County Superior Court Suite, security office and other building support functions such as the central plant. The second floor of the BHP consists of two 24 - bed inpatient units equipped with indoor and outdoor activity areas, seclusion rooms, group therapy rooms, nurse stations and staff support areas. Also located on the second floor is a satellite pharmacy and physician offices.

The third floor is shelled out for future accommodation of an additional two 24 - bed inpatient units identical to the second floor units and more physician offices. A small psychiatric administrative unit is built-out on the third floor. The BHP is connected to the new Crisis Response Center to the south by a secure - covered link and an outdoor gated Sally Port for law enforcement vehicles.
