This project was initially planned to be a Helistop but was changed to a Helipad. This change allows for medical helicopters to be stationed at the UPH Kino Campus hospital site. Helicopter stationing at the hospital campus site minimizes response time for trauma patient pick-up and drop-off. It also allows for the treatment of critically injured people and adds to the hospital critical care treatment options within the greater Tucson area.

The helipad design includes: The landing pad, taxiway and the parking pad are designed with 10” thick cast-in-place concrete reinforced with #5 rebar at 12 inches on center each way. The concrete has 4,000 psi 28-day strength and 6% air entrainment to achieve cracking protection against extreme temperature changes. Protection against fuel leakage through the concrete was achieved through treatment with a penetrating sealer, applying a seamless membrane of traffic coating and sloping the pad to avoid standing water.

Infrastructure has been put in place to accommodate the installation of a fuel tank and administrative modular building.
