Romero Road from just north of Roger Road, to just south of Wetmore Road, was reconstructed to widen it from two travel lanes to three. Improvements included a two-way left turn lane, new sidewalks and vertical curbs along both sides of the road. County traffic records indicated that approximately 14,000 vehicles per day travel this stretch of Romero Road. It was an inherently hazardous and challenging area for school children, pedestrians, and bicyclists due to the speed of the traffic, congestion in the area, and the lack of pedestrian and bicycle facilities. These improvements benefited all 500-plus children who attend Homer Davis Elementary School by providing safer access for students walking and cycling to school and to the new library and community center located just north of the school.
