    The County acquired 67 acres of State Trust land known as the Valencia Archaeological Site at public auction. The County was awarded over $400,000 from the Arizona State Parks Growing Smarter matching fund grant program for acquisition of this property. The Site is an ancient Hohokam Village that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has evidence of occupation from approximately 1200 B.C. to about 1150 A.D. The parcel contains a ballcourt, plazas, 1,800 pithouses, and hundreds of human burials. It is one of the last remaining large prehistoric village sites along the Santa Cruz River in the Greater Tucson area.
